Last Wednesday, Meta announced it’s rolling out AI support assistants for Facebook and Instagram, with plans to “reduce our reliance on third-party vendors” employing humans for content enforcement over the next few years.

The company framed this as a win: AI will handle the “repetitive reviews of graphic content” so humans don’t have to suffer PTSD from seeing beheadings and child abuse all day.

Here’s my take: Meta isn’t protecting workers. They’re admitting they built a moderation system so broken, so soul-destroying, that even they can’t fix it—so they’re automating the trauma away.

And we’re supposed to applaud?


The Conventional Wisdom
